Solar panel rooftops are one step closer to 100% renewable energy. If we do not do anything about climate change, it will continue to increase over time. Solar roofs will help with many climate issues, which is important for everyone. Our goal as MASSPIRG on our campus is to get 2,000 petition signatures from the students. I am a part of MASSPIRG at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and we are supporting the Million Solar Roofs campaign along with Environment Massachusetts, by collecting petitions among the students on campus. In 2006, then-Governor Schwarzenegger signed the Million Solar Roofs Initiative into law, which set a goal of building one million solar energy systems on homes.
It is one of the biggest solar roof projects we have seen to date. They generate energy that prevents us from consuming fossil fuels, which release climate gasses.
